New HVAC System

Top Tips for Choosing a New HVAC System

The HVAC system in your Hayden, Alabama, home is one of the largest investments you will make. Not all systems are alike, and there are many factors to research and examine before you make your purchase. Let’s look at three aspects to take into account when looking to upgrade your HVAC system.

Choose the Right Furnace

Although you probably use your air conditioner more than your heater, when the nights get chilly, you want to have the right furnace. Most furnaces use natural gas, oil, or propane, so decide which fuel source is readily available and the most convenient for your home. Because fuel is expensive, you want your furnace to burn efficiently. Look for a new furnace that has a high Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratio. The higher the AFUE number, the more efficient your furnace is at converting fuel to heat, which creates less wasted energy than a heater with a lower rested AFUE.

Have the Right Air Conditioner

Look for an air conditioner with a high Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). The higher the number, the more efficient the air conditioner runs. Most modern air conditioners have a SEER rating of at least 18 or 19, and some go even higher. In addition, make sure that you have a load-calculation performed so that you have the properly sized air conditioner for your unique living space.

Use a Heat Pump as an Alternative HVAC System

A heat pump is a great alternative for milder climates. In the winter, it functions as a heater, and in the summer, like an air conditioner. The heat pump system is very energy-efficient since it doesn’t generate warm or cool air, it simply transfers and exchanges it. Not only will you save money on your energy bills, but you also only have one system to keep up as opposed to both your furnace and air conditioner maintenance.
